For years, economic development conversations have focused on alignment. We have asked communities, governments, industry, Indigenous partners, institutions, and economic development organizations to work together, coordinate efforts, and pursue shared priorities. Alignment remains important, but it is no longer enough.

Thanks to AI and clever architectural work-arounds, today’s email scams don’t look like scams. They don’t contain spelling errors. And in many cases, they don’t even care if you have 2FA enabled.

The "Belonging Gap"

SEDA's work in the community safety and well-being realm has identified a need for social cohesion and 'belonging" strategies. An example from western Australia is the Growing Friends Society (GFS), a 140-year-old charity that creates practical opportunities for connection, contribution, and community. GFS comprises both the growth of friendship and belonging, and the hands-on growing that sits at the heart of their work through gardens, food production, and regenerative projects.

Resilience and Regional Food Systems

Food systems are increasingly complex, facing growing threats from interconnected shocks – from climate change to global economic disruptions. BC based Selkirk College has compiled a number of resources on food resilience that can be applied in the Saskatchewan context.
