Economic Development Week Recap

Thank you to all of our members who actively celebrated last week.  There are too many examples of engagement to include here, but we were excited to see numerous local  proclamations as well as communities promoting the value of economic development on their websites and via social media.

Congratulations to the new inter-community partnership announced last week between the Town of Bienfait, RM of Estevan and RM of Coalfields. Operating as the Southeast Saskatchewan Economic Partnership, they have now launched their investment attraction website www.ssep.ca

Special mention to the economic development officers in our southwest communities of Shaunavon, Eastend, Frontier, Maple Creek, Gull Lake and Hazlet. They meet monthly to build common ground and last week announced a joint Regional Tourism Campaign to be executed this summer.

	Existing businesses key to economic growth Hats off to the City of Lloydminster in their recent committment to hiring a Business Retention & Expansion Specialist, Jana Rowe. The city recognizes that job creation and commercial growth most often comes from existing businesses, and is the first step to growing their existing industry clusters - and identifying new ones.
	Do we need a Minister of Lonliness? This year Japan become the second country to establish a Minister of Lonliness, following on creation of a similar ministry in the UK. Millenials are being hit hardest in the lonliness epidemic.
