Businesses often find it more profitable to spend their resources on retaining existing customers instead of trying to attract new ones. Rather than offering discounts and upgrades to pull in ever-more people, they work to build a connection, even a relationship, with the people who have already bought in. They may seek feedback on what services or products their existing customers need and find out what’s working (or not) to keep them invested in the company.
Could the same idea apply to economic development? After all, businesses and communities are interdependent, so a relationship of sorts already exists. What can communities do to strengthen the connection with local business and industry so everyone can grow together? Read more.

Investment Readiness Program for Social Enterprises now open |

Applications are now being accepted for the federal Investment Readiness Program (IRP). Eligible Saskatchewan social purpose organizations are invited to apply for funding from the IRP through Saskatoon Community Foundation. This is part of a $50 million national initiative, delivered by Community Foundations of Canada and other support partners, and funded by the Government of Canada. Saskatoon Community Foundation is a regional partner.
The IRP is open to a range of organizations and business including charities, nonprofits, co-ops and social enterprises. The program can provide $10,000 to $75,000 to create, manage, and expand social enterprises so they can become ready to accept investment.
Applications for the IRP should be submitted by November 22 through the program's website.
