PRIVACY POLICY AND CASL COMPLIANCE

SEDA is committed to protecting the privacy and the personal information of current and past members, current and past clients, and any members of the public who share information with SEDA staff as part of the delivery of our programs or services. We strive to ensure that the organization and any third parties working with SEDA comply with relevant legislation that may apply to the collection, use and disclosure of personal information of any kind.

The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada (‘OPC’) administers the two federal privacy statutes applicable in Saskatchewan:

  • the Privacy Act, RSC 1985, c P-21 (‘the Federal Privacy Act’) and
  • the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act, SC 2000, c 5 (‘PIPEDA’).

In Saskatchewan, since there is no private-sector privacy legislation, PIPEDA applies to personal information held by private-sector organisations and federally-regulated organizations. While PIPEDA does not apply to employee personal information held by other private-sector organizations, the Saskatchewan Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (‘OIPC’) has recommended that private-sector organizations adhere to PIPEDA when it comes to employee and sensitive client information on a best practices basis.
